who nervously shied away from the wine in the back of the limo, watched
the window and noticed signs of trees thickening where buildings would
normally stand. At first she felt this was odd, wouldn't a castle be
city? Not out in the country? But then she supposed it made sense for it
to be out in the country shadowing its city or something mythical like
words of encouragement only caused alex to glance back at him with a
scowl. Yes she new the rules, she new them very well, she also new that
she was invited to
walk into a vampire home and she accepted the offer willingly. One rule
down… And she doubted very much that rules held much sway on any race,
this is the
modern world, the new age, not the old days. Besides that, she didn't
feel comfortable talking about it in front of belle, She new her
roommate was gong
through a lot at the time and it would be rather rude to talk about her
and her kind so openly.
"Guys...the doors are locked...somethings not right."
blinked and turned her attention first to belle and then to the door,
she could react to the situation her roommate was dragged out and the
door locked shut in an instant. Alex turned and looked confused at
rummaging around with the contents of the limo. Once finding an item of
satisfactory Alex reached out a hand towards Thorian and muttered in a

receiving the wine in one hand and the heavy object in
another, Alex turned and positioned herself to face the window of the
locked car. If anything she could break open the window, crawl out and
throw the wine at
the drivers face, with a little help of her illusion spells making the
man think her wine was actually fire. Unfortunately she was still new at
and doubted the Wine Fire would really burn, she could only hope that
the drivers mind would do the work for her.
Raising her arm with the heavy item clutched tightly in her hand she made to swing when
the door clicked… and belle came back inside.
"Your not gonna believe what just happened."
"Who is that man? Who is our so called 'driver'? How can you know he is
Alex chanted out, her hand still clutching the heavy item with a death grip. Her eyes
glaring into the window where the drivers head Alex could only assume was sitting at the wheel.
"I'm telling you I don't like this! We should either go back to the school
or into the forest!"

Alex was just about
ready to curse out a few more questions when Thorian broke into her
comments before they
even left her lips. He seemed to be shacking his hand like something had
burned him though she was to occupied with saving and lecturing belle
that she had no
idea what the boy was up to.
"wouldn't you rather have a sword?"
Lowering her hand with the heavy paperweight she turned her head over her shoulder and gave the boy a wink
"Yea why? Do you have one on hand or something?"
Though Thorian seemed to pay no more attention to her as he began to draw strange symbols on the leather
seats and carpeted floor of the limo, Once finished he shoved a small joy stick into her hand
"There, Only me and uncle Cedric can get through those doors, and if
anything comes at us head on we just let the skittish fox press red
buttons till her
hearts content.... uh try not to blow up any pedestrians, it messes with
the illusion of this still being a limo on the outside..."
Giving Thorian a
small smile she capped the bottle of wine and grabbed onto it by the
Apologized to belle and then crawled through the drivers window and
flopped herself down into the front seat, gave the seat belt a pause of
then with a shrug of her shoulders turned to smile at the driver
pointing the bottle of wine at his ribs. But with her illusion spells
caused the bottle to
look like a small hand pistol
"I do hope you forgive me sir, But if you could be so kind as to keep both hands on the stirring wheel,
feet apart and head facing forwards…. Oh and just a personal suggestion…. Don't make any foul movements…if you do…"
Alex Shoved the pistol into the mans ribs just enough to press her point, and then smiled prettily up at
"So driver, what's your name, and why are we trusting you more than the last guy?"
Thorian Began the question, and Alex watched both the driver and the road carefully while listening to …
Kevan being his name… his story.
Once they arrived
Alex shifted into the form of a fox right before her friends and kevans
eyes, when the
door opened she sprinted out and disappeared off into the castle. It
took all but fifteen or so minuets to search all the open places of the
castle, the parts
that weren't locked down or in any other way unable to access, once
stasfied that there was no real danger at the present time she returned
to the front
entrance and turned back into her normal form as a human. Brushing a few
leaves off the top of her head and untangelings a twig she replied in
happiest and cheerful mood her friends had seen her for the day
"Snacks? I say that sounds absolutely wonderful!"

"Ahhh! You must be Alex! My name is Barnabas Dupont….."
Alex took a step up to her Mr. Dupont and
offered a firm shake off his hand in greeting while bobbing her head in
a form of a small
bow. Alex when in the presence of higher class people tend to have a
natural reaction to bow in formality, though she never noticed it
herself, she would often
get strange looks from those around her, bowing was so old age.
Once Mr. Dupont
smiled and turned his attention to Thorian
Alex turned towards the stairway and ran a delicate finger across the
smooth red wood
railing while admiring the craftsmanship of the castle itself, this was
indeed a nice looking castle for the many years it had been standing. Of
Mr. Dupont would
probably want to try and keep to the
traditions of the new ages that come by… but still... she did expect to
see something of less quality then what was before her now.
Alex listened to every word Mr. Dupont spoke hoping to catch any hints of something more then what was seen on the outside of this
splendid welcoming, maybe even a hint as to why they were attacked tonight.
"…Must attend to some business really quickly, but I assure you it will not take me long. I will have
the butler show you into the study. I will be right with you."
If Alex was still in
fox form everyone would have been able to see her huge silk black ears
perked to every word spoken from those behind her. For a split moment
she had considered turning back into her fox form and secretly fallow Mr. Dupont to
the 'business' he had mentioned, it might be
clues to the ever growing puzzle… but then she had decided that it would
be too suspicious and so she walked to observe a few small statues
sitting next to a
small mantel next to the stairs instead, her curious hands reaching up
to touch the curves of a Jade Fox sitting majestically on a throne
"Isn't there suppose to be another? Belle, did we accidentally leave someone
Alex blinked startled at the comment from Mr. Dupont almost knocking over the Jade statue she was admiring, how did he know there was a possibly a
third member to the party? What startled her even more was Mr. Dupont
moving to the foyer of which at his commands opened up a panel full of knobs and buttons, she would have to check out that panel
the first chance she got, Alex silently noted.
At the first mention
of snacks and wine Alex turned promptly on her heels and watched as one
of the staff
members of the castle came in to lead the small group into the study
room. Alex purposely fallowed directly behind and just slightly to the
right of this
boreguard fellow. Her keen eyes scouring every corner of the halls they
walked. Once inside the study Alex placed in a special order of white
rice for the
guard to relay to the cook and then picking out the love seat she
flopped back her feet hanging over one of the arm rest, and her eyes
peering casually up at
Once the snacks
arrived Alex sat up properly from her lounged position and pulled the
bowl of rice and a few
slices of cheese over to where she was sitting. She was also surprised
to see that one of the selections of drinks was a bottle of sake,
licking her lips
hungrily she snatched up the bottle, popped the cork, smelled the
fragrance of the sake and then slowly poured herself a small shot glass
for her first
enjoyment while her eyes scanned the plate of fruit for some plumbs
"Mmm odd… They seem to know exactly the things I like…"
She observed out loud as she found her plumbs and added it to her plate of selected food.
Once she had finished her snacks she sat back with the bottle of sake in her hands and slowly milked away at
its sweet content while engaging in small conversation with her friends.
It did not take long for Mr. Dupont to return and when he did Alex sat up and offered a warm smile, the sake warming her blood and
relaxing her body.
"I don't mind staying, I am pretty curious to hear what he has to say"

Kevan walked into the pub, and stood in front of Alia and her guardians. He turned as the older
woman spoke up, and he noticed she seem rather flustered by his presence.
"Lemonade? Wine? Meade? Cinnamon cakes? Coffee? ... Blood?"
thank you for your hospitality. My name is Kevan, friend of Belle. I
have come to
transport Alia safely to the castle. I am sorry to say that I can't
discuss the reasons that Alia is in danger." Kevan turned to Alia and
her, showing the urgency in his voice. "It is a well guarded secret, and
it would only jeopardize your family's lives if I were to tell them.
be told what you need to know in due time." Kevan turned back to face
all three of the elves standing in front of him. "I know it is a lot to
in, especially when no explanation has been given, but I assure you that
Alia is not safe here. She will be well protected at my master's
castle, but if
she should choose to stay here…if Alia stayed here, people would begin
to hunt her down. Any harm, or…if she should die, would mean suffering
to all the people
and creatures of earth. Alia is vulnerable by herself, but with friends
she is strong." Kevan took in a deep breath and released it. He looked
each one of
the elves square in the eyes, and then spoke. "I was also told to tell
you that she will have her tuition completely paid to go to the boarding
the gifted and talented that is here in town. Of course, only if she
agrees to stay at the castle to learn about her destiny." Kevan looked
down at his
watch and gasped. "I am sorry, the time has run away from me, we must
leave at once. What is your answer Alia?"
"I don't mind staying, I am pretty curious to hear what he has to say"
Down to business!" Mr. Dupont smiled at the group of kids, reached in
pocket, and pulled out a royal red velvet pouch. He was about to speak
when the power went out, leaving them illuminated by candlelight. He
held up his finger,
signaling that he would be just a moment, and went over to the wall next
to the bookcases. He went through the same process earlier to summon
the butler and
spoke into the panel. "Boreguard, please make sure that extra security
measures are taken with the electricity out. Thank you." He walked over
chair, sat down, and continued. "Sorry, seems a rouge lightening bolt
hit our power line, uprooting it and knocking out power all over the

at the three of them in turn. "In this bag lies your future, all four of
well….three right now until the other girl arrives." Mr. Dupont chuckled
and pressed on. "That is, of course, only if you choose to accept. Who
has heard of the tree of life?" Mr. Dupont looked around the room, and
focused on his granddaughters eyes. He knew she knew, but she didn't
true story behind it.
As Belle met her grandfather's eyes, she saw a look of sadness, but also
a hint of pride. Belle knew the story of the tree of life. Her father
her of the legend before bed each night. Belle nodded and passed her
knowledge on to her friends. "The Tree of Life is an important symbol to
and many other cultures. Its branches reach into the heavens, and its
roots reach deep in the earth, it dwells in three worlds. It is a link
earth, and the underworld. It is the symbol of Balance and Harmony."
Belle looked at her grandfather wondering what this legend had to do
with her or her
"Very well said, Belle!" Mr. Dublin beamed at her granddaughter.
"However, that is not the true story. Like most legends or myths they
of a true story, but only a part." Mr. Dublin picked up the velvet pouch
off his lap and opened it. He stood up and walked over to Belle while
inside the pouch. He pulled out a necklace and handed it to Belle. He
went around the room and gave Alex and Thorin the exact some one as
well. "These are
yours to keep if you agree to the request I am about to ask. It is the
reason you are all here tonight. It is no coincidence that you four have
met, and are
now staying at this castle. Belle's grandfather whispered "A vampire, a
wizard, a kitsune, and an elf…it was your destiny to become friends."
Belle looked down at her necklace, and studied the circular amulet of the tree of life.
She traced her finger around the symbol. It was a beautiful piece of jewelry that captivated
her. Belle looked up as her grandfather told them that it was their destiny to meet.

(Hey guys its Emrys... Unfortunatly i have two accounts on here... so sometimes I forget which one I am on
and post with the wrong ones LoL... So yea...Its still me!)
Alex took another sip
of her sake, leaning casually back into the cushions of the love seat,
her eyes half
closed as she enjoyed the taste of sake on her lips. When somewhere at
the back of her mind whispering was a voice that sounded oddly enough
"Fattening us up you think? Or genuine sincerity?"
his words cutting
into her thoughts just as she was taking another sip from her bottle,
causing her to choke
on the warm liquid in surprise that he had someone occupied her thoughts
without anyone else knowing that he was talking to her and her alone.
Lifting her hand
up to her mouth she began coughing, once she was able to clear her
throat she gave a quick sidelong glance over at the wizard before
bringing the bottle up to
her lips sooth her now burning throat.
When Mr. Dupoint
joined the small group and offered a chance for an explanations, Alex
snatched the last
slice of cheese from the snacks plate and leaned back once again into
the cushions focusing on the old vampire resting in his chair when the
went out with a small background hum.
"Sorry, seems a rouge lightening bolt hit our power line, uprooting it and knocking out power all over
the city. We have a generator, but it has failed due to lack of use. We will continue on in the candlelight "
Alex watched as a
near by candle danced upon its wick, she was happier this way, it was
dark with only the
illumination of natural light. So soothing. Though something else had
caught her eye now that all the lights were out, something, she noted,
that need to have
a closer look at once the old man was gone. The sound of something
jingling caused her to look back up to see Mr. Dupoint standing with a
small velvet bag in
"In this bag lies your future, all four of you, well….three right now until the other girl arrives.
That is, of course, only if you choose to accept. Who here has heard of the tree of life?"
Alex new about the
tree of life, and the various stories that went along with the fairy
tails, she was
always fascinated in history that delt in magic, and the tree of life
was one of the most vague stories out there, due to the many
interpretations of it. Alex
always found the story of Merlin and his little seed to be her favorite
of them all. But despite the story Alex couldn't help but be suspicious,
this old man know that they were all going to meet the way they did? How
did he know what they were? What made him think they were destined for
then what they created for themselves? She also wondered what would
happen if she refused the gift, but she couldn't help it, she was a
Kitsune, full of
curiosity, and who could pass up a silver pendant with the tree of life
imprinted on it?

Mr. Dupont looked at his guests and was about to speak again, but was startled by Thorin's
flashed in his eyes as he ran over to his granddaughter. He pulled her
with him to the floor, and muttered ancient words under his breath,
which produced a protective enchantment around the study. His mind
swirled with questions
as Thorin battled with an unknown enemy. How did someone penetrate his
defensive enchantments around the house? He knew that he was very
proficient in the art
of enchantments, and for someone to infiltrate his barriers had to be a
very powerful sorcerer or wizard. What did this all mean for Belle and
her friends? He
was not pleased at what was transpiring.
"He's wearing down.... but if he keeps it up he's gonna break
throught I have..... I have to go out and face him...
"I'm.... so.... so sorry I couldn't"
"you guys will be fine on your journey"
Thorin's last statement, Mr. Dupont closed his eyes, and thought to
At least we have a backup plan. I hope the elf friend has agreed to
come. He looked down at his granddaughter and when the threat was no
longer immediate; he
released the enchantment and helped her back up off the floor.
"I'll go get my things."
exhaled a pent up breath that was taken in anticipation of her response.
the Gods, he thought, the protectors are complete. He watched as Alia
went upstairs and turned to her guardians. "I swear on my creator that
will be safe. You have made the right choice in this." Alia came back
down the stairs with her suitcase in hand, and tears rolling down her
"I want you to go to the woods and take Rusa with you. And I don't care
what this girl's grandfather says about the protection in his home. I
Rusa to look after her."
nodded his head and motioned for Alia to go out the door before him.
"Please, lady's first. The car is in the driveway, I will wait in the
car while you locate Rusa." Kevan followed after Alia into the night,
to the car, unlocked the door, and waited for her arrival.
Belle took her grandfather's hand and stood up. "I don't understand what is going
on here. And could you please tell me what Thorin is talking about? What journey? I am so confused, and I need answers!"
Dupont sat down and thought how best to
answer all of Belle's questions. "I was trying to wait for our other
guest to arrive, but it seems that the time for answers are at hand.
Alex, and the elf are guardians of the tree of life, and Thorin is to be
your protector. The amulets I passed out are keys that unlock a portal
that brings the
tree of life to earth, back from the underworld. In the underworld the
tree of life is fruitless and dormant, but on earth it bears wonderful
fruit that brings
immortality to anyone that eats of it. It's also a gateway between
heaven, earth, and the underworld. It is you and your friends destiny,
if you and your
friends so choose, to be the tree of life's protectors. Belle, do you
remember the story I told you of our families curse? Well…there is more
story. Let me tell the story in its completion, and you and your friend
will understand the complexity of the choice that has been placed before

fingered the silver pendant in her hands, turning it every which way
the craftsmanship of the little trinket, but she was also scanning it to
see if there were any hidden devices in it, she had seen this one movie
could create listening chips as small as a ballpoint pen. Before she
thought that was absurd, but after the things she had seen in this
world, something as
pathetic as that wouldn't surprise her. She simply refused to trust
anyone except her own friends at this time. Besides, this old man hadn't
why that one driver attacked them this night, or why he kept insisting
that they were in danger, or how he new about the other girl that was
soon to join them.
And his story about the tree of life sounded more like a children's game
made to keep kids occupied during the long summer. Kids loved
adventure, and what
better thing did an old man have then for years to set it up so that his
kids could have that adventure?
Her curiosity didn't
take long though as she slipped the cold chain over her neck and her
eyes turned to
look at thorian to see his reaction to the pendant handed to him, he
seemed pleased at the offer, but it did not last long when the silver
metal turned red in
his hands, causing the boy to drop it quickly before jumping up and
shouting for everyone to get down.
The first shudder
that shook the house caused Alex to jump and look up at the ceiling
where a large beam
should have fallen on her if not for the protection shield the small
wizard had conjured. The next shudder that shook the house caused Alex
to make up her
mind, she wouldn't stand around to be crushed, and since Belle seemed
well enough protected by her grandfather, she shifted into her fox form
the pendant that had fallen from thorians hand, grasped the cold metal
into her strong jaws, and took off towards the corner of the book
somehow, mysteriously she disappeared.
She was in darkness,
the place she had disappeared into had little space to move, and yet
seemed to be a
perfect fit for a fox, the words and shouts of her friends washed over
her though the darkness, but she new she couldn't do anything except
wait out the
storm, once it passed she could return and be sure everyone else had
When the pounding
halted, the shouts silent, and the dust heavy, Alex poked her head back
out into the study
room, the pendant still clasped in her jaws as she looked around and
gingerly picked her way through the broken wooden slates, fallen books,
broken shards of
foundation, and a cloud of dust.

*Remember that '~' indicates a change in point of view from one character to the other.*
"You brought this upon the boy you know, had you not tried to involve him, it'd not have come to this."
"You fool!" Mr. Dupont was ravenous with anger at
the audacity of the wizard making rubble of his family's
castle. "The amulet chooses its master! I had nothing to do with this!
You know that! We have spoken on this before!" Mr. Dupont watched as
Thorin's limp body was carried through a gate that the old wizard had
conjured out of nowhere. He knew that he couldn't stop what was
Thorin. He was too old, and his days on this earth were numbered. Mr.
Dupont could only hope that someone would come to his aide. As this
thought crossed his
mind a man, oddly familiar, yet unknown, came through the study and
towards the gate. He engaged Cedric in battle and they disappeared from
sight. Mr. Dupont
sighed, and was about to press on with the story when Alex, in fox form,
returned to the study, seemingly out of nowhere. "You both must listen,
listen well! It is crucial that you both know the story and details of
the tree of life. All of this…this chaos is the reason we need all of
you to agree to be
the guardians. There are forces beyond anything that you could imagine,
trying to prevent the four of you from being together. It isn't just
protecting the tree of life, it is also about bringing harmony and
understanding between all! Vampires, elves, kitsune, wizards, and
humans! The amulet chooses
the guardian, not the other way around! Once there is an agreement
between everyone, the amulets give their powers to the chosen ones." As
he was about to
open his mouth again, Kevan came running into the study, and was visibly
two shades whiter than normal. Mr. Dupont looked him up and down,
irritated at being
interrupted again, and responded rather matter-of-fact, given the
circumstances. "Kevan, you look like you went to the underworld and
back! By the Gods
boy…what happened to you?"
Kevan heard the door open to the car, and looked
back as Alia and Rusa climbed into the backseat. Kevan's jaw dropped as
he looked at
his guests. "Rusa is a wolf?! You do know that one of your newly found
friends is a Kitsune…right? Kitsune's do not get along with wolves or
Well….this should be interesting." Kevan started the car up, and heard
the wolf growl.
"Rusa, stop it!"
"I believe that would be why." Kevan grinned,
turned back around, and put the car in gear. Kevan zoned out as he
drove towards his destination. Belle was unlike any girl he had ever
met. She was not drop dead gorgeous, but she had a beauty that he could
not explain. She
captivated him like none other. As the Dupont castle came into view,
Kevan looked up and his heart sank. The castle loomed like a bad omen;
he saw flashes of
light which illuminated clouds of smoke that was rising up from the
castle. "Shit!" Kevan stomped on the gas, and the car gave a roar as it
life. He tightened his knuckles on the wheel and made very calculated,
but dangerous turns that he was sure sent his companions flying around
the back seat. He
had no time to be courteous, because the life of his savior was surely
in peril. The car flew past the gates and stopped right in front of the
castle. The car
had barely come to a stop, before Kevan flung his door open, raced up
the steps to the front door, and flung open the castle doors. He stopped
right inside the
foyer, turned around, and held up his hands as he muttered an
enchantment to put up a shield around the car. He turned back around,
and realized that all the
shouting and screaming was coming from the study. Kevan ran to the door
and threw it open, just before the shouts stopped. Kevan closed his
eyes, and walked
into the study. He feared the worst, knowing that silence was never a
good sign. He walked in and opened his eyes. He saw Mr. Dupont sitting
in his chair. Mr.
Dupont turned to him, and looked at him in shock. Kevan sighed in
relief. He heard Mr. Dupont ask what had happened to him. "Nothing, I
thought the worst
when I saw the flashes of light and smoke coming from the castle." Kevan
looked around, and saw the damage inflicted on the castle. One of the
been smashed, and clouds of dust lingered like fog. Kevan coughed as
dust went up his nose, while waving a hand in front of his face. "What
Mr. Dupont looked at Kevan, and waved his hand as to dismiss the mess. "Oh, I'll explain later. Did the elf agree to
Kevan cocked his eyebrow and smiled, "Why yes she
did….oh no! I forgot she is still in the car! I didn't want to put her
danger, so I put up an enchantment and ran inside to see what was going
on. I will show her in" Kevan turned around and went back to the car. He
down, muttered quietly to expel the enchantment, and opened the door for
Alia and Rusa. "I am so sorry to have left you Alia; I just wanted to
it was safe for you to go in. Please follow me." Kevan turned and walked
up the castle steps once again. He held the door open for Alia, and
then led her
to the study. "This is Dupont castle; it was built in the year 1818. It
is now also your home if you choose to stay." Kevan opened the door to
study and motioned for Alia to enter before him. Kevan walked into the
study and presented Alia formally. "Mr. Dupont, this is Alia…Alia this

Mr. Dupont rose from his chair and extended his
hand in greeting. "It is an honor to meet you Ms…Alia. Please, have a

crouched low in her dark hideing
place, the hole in which she crawled into seemed to be the perfect size
for a fox, and although dark, dusty, and smelling of mildew, Alex
continued to keep
crouched. Her small globe chocker pendant glowed warmly around her neck,
it often glowed when engulfed in darkness, she had always known It to
be special, she
just never realized how special until the day she learn about who, and
what she was. The Globe Pendant reflected off of the other silver

place looked like a small tunnel, barely large enough for a fox to fit

would be at the end of the tunnel. But before her mind was made up her
keen fox ears picked up shouting, the words came from Mr. Dupoint and a

unfamiliar with, the voice… she could not place. She made to go back,
when the sound of thunder crashed near by, she thought it was another

best to stay where she was at until it was safe for her to re-emerge

her way out of the tunnel and slowly picked her way through the rubble,
the place was a mess, she could only hope that it was only the study
room that bore the
chaos that was thrown down upon it. Leaping up onto a fallen support
beam Alex looked down at Mr. Dupoint and Belle, they looked safe enough,
a little dusty
but safe. Lowering her muzzle in-between her small paws she dropped the
pendant at her paws then looked up yawning, trying to stretch out her
aching jaw from
holding the pendant there for to long.
"You both must listen, and listen well!"
Mr. Dupont commanded, causeing Alex to crouch low half laying on top of the support beam looking
down at the two vampires.

Was that not common in this world?
The sound of pounding footsteps caught her attention causing her to jump and spin around to see who
was entering into the room. It was Kevan, the vampire at the old pub.
He seemed rushed and very confused, but when mention of the elf was arisen he practically slapped
